PURPOSE:    This position takes the lead in coordinating multiple aspects of transportation services in the district, including being the liaison with the transportation contractor and schools, coordinating field trip and special needs transportation requests, and investigating transportation complaints. The primary role of this position is to support student success within the district transportation system.   This position reports directly to the Facilities and Transportation Director.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Oversees field trip and special needs transportation requests in accordance with district policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates with the transportation contractor on route assignments, district training requests, communication, and student behavior management.
  • Conducts training with non-transportation personnel, such as bus aides and coaches, to ensure the safety of all riding the buses.
  • Coordinates training for teachers and coaches who drive activity vans.
  • Serves as the liaison between the district and the transportation contractor on all aspects of contract issuance, administration, and compliance.
  • Investigates and resolves complaints regarding transportation issues, as needed, following district policies and guidelines.
  • Works with district staff, such as occupational and behavioral specialists, to ensure a safe climate for student transportation related issues.
  • Communicates and builds relationships with parents and district staff in order to effectively resolve student conduct issues in compliance with federal and state laws, and district policies and procedures.
  • Supervises and trains staff assigned by the Facilities and Transportation Director.
  • Plans and coordinates school bus rider safety education programs in the schools.
  • Monitors and reports changes in federal and state laws that impact the district transportation services.
  • Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, reporting, and processing of all necessary reimbursement requests on behalf of the district.
  • Review and maintain all district policies and administrative rules related to pupil transportation services.
  • Assists the Facilities and Transportation Director in special projects and programs.
  • Provides other related services as assigned.

  • Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position.
  • Maintain personal appearance and hygiene appropriate to the position as defined by the district.
  • Meet applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position.

The training and supervisory responsibilities of this position requires the ability to direct, guide, influence, and motivate others.  The majority of this position’s time is involved in working with people ranging from management personnel to part-time laborers.  The high visibility of this position demands superior communication and human relation skills.

 

  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Four years of increasing responsibility job related. Minimum one year experience in pupil transportation or K12 education.
  • Knowledge of pupil transportation laws.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with staff, students, administrators, parents, and others.  Adaptability and flexibility to perform work within changing priorities and interruptions.
  • Experience working with and responding to people from diverse cultures and/or backgrounds.
  • Ability to plan work, work schedules, and communicate or otherwise instruct others.
  • Must possess the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Since the operation of district vehicles is required, a valid Oregon driver’s license and a driving record that meets the district insurance coverage specifications must be maintained.

While performing the duties of the position, the employee works with standard office and/or instructional equipment with moving mechanical parts.

The noise level in the work environment could be moderate to high.  The employee’s work takes place in the office and in the field.  Conditions include exposure to dust, dirt, heat and cold, noise, fumes and odors, wetness, vibration, darkness, and poor lighting.
